1960年代以前,凶神恶煞如傅满洲、阴阳怪气如陈查理等典型亚洲男性形象长期活跃在大小荧幕上。但从60年代开始,在欧美反文化和民权运动盛行的大背景下,亚洲男性的形象走向多元。邪恶、诡计多端、阴阳怪气、地位低下的亚洲男性又多了另一面:聪明、好学、成就高,并逐渐成为“模范少数” ( Model Minority )。
